very busy week – knackered but happy

Last week was exhausting but fun. 1st Wednesday on er Wednesday evening, was well attended with 16 people (7 new to the RI). Then our 1st Saturday meeting on youguessedit Saturday had 46 count them 46 gamers and a time-lapse video. Yes. A time-lapse video. Finally, on Sunday, we went to Vapnartak and demo’d the games to lots of people. We got new email contacts and saw many gamers already on the list, so hopefully they’ll start coming along.

We sold nearly all the surplus games we’d prepared for Print & Pay, which brought in £61, but more importantly has freed up storage space for us. So we’ll be able to buy some more games on our wish list soon. Helen had run up excellent sheets to sell the games, and they only lasted a couple of hours. Remember, you can bring you own P&P sheets to BM! and sell or trade your surplus games too.

And since you are always interested, what did we get to play…?

On Wednesday, it was Heckmeck twice (Paul was noble in tragedy, twice), Alhambra, Carcassonne, our new copy of Apples To Apples (the new UK edition from Mattel), String Railway (an amazing from last-to-first place win for Helen!), Troyes, Alea Iacta Est, Dominion, Cash ‘n’ Guns, Zooloretto, Forbidden Island, Trans America, Atlantis (love that game, always different always fun).

On Saturday, split across 2 rooms and a hallway, we played Thurn & Taxis, Alles für die Katz, Tobago, Iliad, Sylla, Labyrinth The Card Game (variant rules), Shadow Hunters, Gift Trap (Helen LOVES movies, no wait, Helen HATES movies!), Mosaix, Diamant, Game Of Thrones, Agricola, Indonesia (yes, at last), Zooloretto, The Adventurers (our noisy fun drew attention and the game got borrowed after), Apples To Apples, Hab & Gut, Carcassonne, Marrakech, World Without End, Race For The Galaxy (played twice), No Thanks, Trans America, Survive! (the new edition of Escape From Atlantis), Tinner’s Trail, the new Civilisation (the game was filmed), Expedition, Ticket To Ride and a ton more.

And we did play on Sunday too, Forbidden Island and Marrakech a lot, Dominion, Apples To Apples, Shadow Hunters and more.

Giganten meeting GiftTRAPs Romana Diamant in Angkor. we played some games.

HEY! Drop your email into that little subscription to the right there—> Get all the news right to your mailbox!

We had lots of fun playing games on Saturday. And gosh, we had another record turn-out year-on-year, 39 gamers on Saturday. Please keep it up and we’ll break our record for the year. We’re set to break 750 visitors for the year, not counting our extra 1st Wednesday people too. We’ve yet to break our best ever of 48 in a day though.

What did we play, you ask? Weeelll…. we played Bananagrams, GiftTRAP, Diamant, Shadow Hunters, Zatre (poor Keith took a beating), Tower Of Babel, Angkor (excellent little game), Ave Caesar, Beehive (a PnP game by our very own Robert), Adel Verflicht, Tonga Bonga, Ticket To Ride Marklin, Aqua Romana, Winner’s Circle, Subulata, Forbidden Island, Saboteur (with 10 count them 10 players), Niagara, Dominion, China, Maori, Junta, Agricola twice (two games running simultaneously!), Giganten (Paul drew five 5-wells in a row, FIVE!!), Queen’s Necklace, No Thanks!, Medici, Ingenious, Atlantis, Stalin’s War, Railways Of England and Wales and many, many more…

Our next meet is 1st Wednesday on 3rd November 2010 at the Orgasmic cafe from 5pm. And then we’re back in the Railway Institute on Saturday 6th November 2010 from 10am.

See you in November!

another BM! record meeting last Saturday

We had another record number at Beyond Monopoly! last Saturday, 27 gamers all day is the highest for our early July meet. Naturally, numbers drop in summer, especially as the schools close and folk take their holidays. So getting nearly 30 in the middle of a warm, sunny summer is excellent. Thanks to everyone for turning out, it’s great to see so many familiar faces. And some nice returns, Nick, Julie, Col, Barbara, good to see you back with us.

Surprise surprise, again Forbidden Island was in demand, it’s proving very popular, partly because it’s so quick to play, but is still a challenge. We lost the first game by a single card, down to 2 tiles, with the next player only having to step onto Fool’s Landing, but it was washed away beneath our feet! What else got played… Puerto Rico, Bang!, Hive, Gone Fishing, Batavia a fine win by a skilled player, Masons an unlucky result from poor cards, Garibaldi, Dominion, No Thanks!, FlussFieber, Carcassonne, Guerilla, World Without End, Zooloretto, Pandemic, Quoridor, Downfall Of Pompeii, Guillotine, Carson City, Imperial 2030, Shadows Over Camelot… and lots more, but we forget.

World Without End

World Without End - who won this...?

We also had a lovely big fan blowing cool air over us, courtesy of Michael. He’s done some excellent work reviewing the club collection. More on this later, but it’s been very informative.

Our next meet is this Wednesday evening at the Orgasmic Cafe off Coney Street in York from 5pm on. It’s a public bar, so bring the games you like and join in the fun.

Thanks too for Robert for all these neat photos!
