BM! New games .. and Friday meetup

Hi everyone

Firstly, just a quick note that we’re on tomorrow evening (Fri 24th May) at the Bar Convent … yay! Hope to see you there.

Also we’re looking to BUY MORE GAMES soon … and you can help us choose them!

Mark put it very well last week, so rather than try to come up with another way of saying it, I’ll simply repeat what he said – ‘steal with pride!’ as an old boss of mine used to say. (But we don’t need a third copy of Kingsburg. Or any more German-language Catan expansions, thanks).

….

As you may well be aware, or not unaware at least, we are in the process of purchasing some brand spanking new games. All your favourites, such as ‘Wetlands’, ‘Who Rides in the Bus?’ and a third copy of ‘Kingsburg’. But what if these aren’t your favourite games *record scratch*? Well that’s why we need you! We want every BM! regular to lay down what games they’d like at the club. To enable this we will be asking every member of BM over the next couple of weeks to write the games they’d like to be played down on a sheet of paper near the games cupboard door. Can’t access BM for the next couple of weeks? No problem, just send an email to bmyork@gmail.com with your suggestions. Can’t use email? No worries, use the BGG list here: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/251218/beyond-monopoly-shopping-list-2019

(note about the list, we already have Terraforming Mars and Azul from there. Likes on the list will not count as votes towards the final games, so there’s no need to do so).

Can’t use the BGG list either, well, er, that’s it, sorry…

Exciting stuff eh? Just make sure your voice is heard.

IN OTHER NEWS

We meet this Saturday at the Bar Convent, from 10am until 9pm. The usual stuff, boardgames, friends, good company, being really welcoming to new people, spoons after. Love it.

Now the exciting news, over to Mark.

“Thanks Mark, I just want to announce my game Forks has launched on Kickstarter *hushed silence*… and has funded! *whoop whoop*. If you know anybody who I haven’t persistently badgered about this then please be my mouth and vocals/fingers and words and inform them. The early bird price finishes on Thursday so if people want to back it now is the time to do so! OR after, which would actually be better for me fiscally. The game itself is a devious card game about embezzling and horrible choices in which you hope to leave your neighbours in a pool of regret. Fun times! Free postage as well in the UK, check it out here:

Forks on Kickstarter”

Meeting Tomorrow (Saturday 4th)

Hi everyone, quick update to say we have a meeting tomorrow at the Bar Convent, from 10am until 9pm. Everyone is welcome, and new members just come into the Bar Convent and then either ask at the desk (they’re especially friendly) or follow the corridor on the left until it comes to a room of people playing boardgames.

We had our AGM recently, updates in the next blog post!

Now over to John about games:

“Thanks Mark,

At our AGM last week, it was decided to:
– allocate £500 for the purchase of new games this year;
– immediately purchase Azul and Terraforming Mars;
– by the end of May seek suggestions and then votes from members about what else to buy (although some money will be held back for games post UKGE/later in the year);
– appoint John McCullough and Paul Rhodes as joint Games Officers (they later agreed that Paul would lead on cataloguing and the cupboard; and John would lead on canvassing members’ opinions about new games to buy).
So far 17 suggestions for extra new purchases have been received, as follows:

Blood on the Clocktower

Coimbra

Cryptid

Forks

Lords of Hellas

NMBR 9

Newton

Onitama

Quacks of Quedlinburg

Rhine Hero: Super Battle

Sagrada

Santorini

Stockpile

Teotihuacan: City of the Gods

Underwater Cities

Western Legends

Wetland
The deadline for further new suggestions is Friday 10 May – so either see John at BM on Sat 4th or Fri 10th or e-mail him at jjj_mccullough@yahoo.co.uk.  Information about voting for your favourites will be circulated shortly after 10 May.”
Thanks for reading!

BM! AGM

Hi everyone

BM’s annual general meeting will be at the Bar Convent this Thursday 25th April starting at 7PM. It’s your chance to get involved in how the club is run.

We’re looking for a couple of people to pick up two of the organiser / committee roles that need to be filled. Neither is a huge time commitment – if you’d like to help the club behind the scenes, please come along.

Saturday at the Trafalgar Bar

BM at Trafalgar Bay on Saturday!
This is instead of the usual Bar Convent venue due to holiday bookings, we will be back there soon!
BM will be meeting at the Trafalgar Bay pub, 7 Nunnery Lane on Saturday (27 April) from 1100-2200.  We have reserved the biggest of their free-to-hire function rooms.  So no fee but please buy a few drinks.  The room will have 2 reasonable size, rectangular tables and 4-5 smaller, round tables (also possibility of overflowing into other rooms).  Bring your own games but not ones that require a large table space.
The pub is midway down Nunnery Lane, just up towards town from Guppys.  Parking is available in the Nunnery Lane car park (at usual Council prices).
I’ll be there at 1100.  I think Keith is coming with Clash of Cultures, we could do with 2 more players.
