As we mentioned before, on the 5th Saturday this month, we are hosting a special event in a different location. On Saturday 30th August 2014, we’re having as gameday in the hall at St Chads on Campleshon Road YO23 1EY in York. We’ll run from 10am to 10pmish and there will be a lot of games to play and lots of fun for all. Paul will be running the Blue Meeple Cafe again, selling food and drink. There will be a Games Bring & Buy sale all day and we will skim cash off all sellers. But the main focus is having a fun day playing games of all sorts.
We want to support a local charity (more on this soon) and the club is sponsoring this gameday as a fundraising event. Normal club rules apply, play nice, no swearing, supervise kids. It will be a very child-friendly event so if you don’t usually bring your family to BM!, now’s your chance. Bring some games to play, bring some games to sell, bring some cash to spend and bring your friends. It’s a large venue, we can host a lot of people, bring your friends.
The entry fee is £1 from 10am-5pm and £1 from 5pm-10pm and £2 if you stop all day. We expect you to be honest! The venue has disabled access and there is a disabled toilet.
Blue Meeple Cafe (11am to 7pm) will be selling food from £2-£3.50 such as sandwiches and meals, with vegan options and even lactose-free. There’ll be tea and coffee for 25p, cans for 75p and water and squash for free all day. You can bring in your own food and drink and pay a £1 cover charge instead.
The Games Bring & Buy sale will let people set out their games for sale with a price list. Do not put stickers all over stuff, it just damages the games and they fall off. Just write out a clear list of what you are selling and if you want a minimum offer. The club gets first choice on game sales. For each item sold, the club will take £1 from the seller or 10% whichever is the higher amount, to go to our charity pot. If the seller would like to give more of the sale in a discrete confidential fashion, that’s your choice. As long as you give the minimum £1/10%, we won’t be disclosing anything and we ask you not to either. Anything not sold, please take back home, it’s not a way of dumping junk. Buyers and sellers, bring your own carrier bags.
The club will be selling off games from our collection. Over this whole year, any and all club sales will go 100% to the charity pot. We are no longer putting prices on stuff, we are open to reasonable offers (roughly £10 on a big game, £5 on small stuff maybe cheaper, but it all depends on quality, condition, how good the game is and so on).
St Chads is on Campleshon Road just off the Bishopthorpe Road, very close to the Millennium Bridge. There are some off-street parking spaces and plenty on street. Some buses run down Campleshon Road (#11, #21, #26) and there are many more frequent buses running down Tadcaster Road. If you’re coming by train, it’s a fair walk down. We suggest getting a bus from the station (#4 is frequent) and get off at the Knavesmire Road (ask the driver to call out at the Newington Hotel). If you miss that stop, get off as soon as you see the Knavesmire and walk across the boggy grass.
What have we missed?
