We have some clarity on what’s happening on Sunday.
With Travelling Man, we’re running the York regional of the Ticket to Ride World Championship tournament on Sunday 13th April 2014. It’s in Room 3 at the Railway Institute on Queen Street in York, just a few minutes walk from the station. It’s where we were based for years, in the main building not the Gym. Sadly, no disabled access, but there is free parking round the back of the Gym for them they gets in early enough.
Sorry for the error, but there is a £5 entry fee to cover the expenses. The event is not free.
The event is free and we encourage you to pre-register to be sure of a spot (email email@example.com), but you can turn up on the day.
The event will start at 10am, so please arrive in good time and be ready to start playing at 10am. We are playing Ticket To Ride, then the India map, and finally TTR Europe. We are aiming for a 4pm finish, and we’ll have a break for lunch between 1pm and 2pm. So we expect to play TTR and India between 10am and 1pm, then play TTR Europe from 2pm and wind up with prizes by 4pm. Travelling Man will be providing something for the winner on the day and who knows what else…
You do need to know how to play properly before we begin. We will not be coaching people beforehand. If you don’t know how to play Ticket To Ride, do not come! You don’t have to be an expert though, or even a great player, but we expect you to know the game already.
We’ll try to have 4 players to a game, and you get points for how many players you beat in a game. This feeds into a ranking, so after the first game, you should be playing people of the same ability mostly. Being a tournament, whilst we still require everyone to be nice, you don’t get to take your turn over as we usually allow in the club. Our decision in any matter will be final.
You may bring your own food and drink to the venue. There is a bar downstairs which generally does hot food. You cannot eat your own food or drink in the bar, but you may in Room 3.
Please note, if you are the final winner, you must declare if you will be going forward to compete in the UK Final on Sunday 1st June 2014 at the UK Games Expo. If you do not want to go, then the 2nd place winner will be offered the spot and so on. But we must have a declared contender on the day. That person gets a paid trip to compete in the UK Final.
The winner of the UK Final gets a paid trip to Paris to compete in the World Final, and the winner of that gets a 9 day trip to Asia for two. Quote “The player who is crowned World Champion in Paris will win a magnificent Grand Prize – a 9 days/8 nights trip for two to Asia, including 3 nights aboard the Luxurious Eastern & Oriental Express. From the excitement of Bangkok to the elegance of Singapore, this trip will be an unforgettable journey through the heart of South-East Asia with visits to colonial Georgetown, Fort Cornwallis and the infamous River Kwai.”
Remember, BM! meets this Friday evening at the Bar Convent, 5pm to 9pm, so you have some time to practise.
